SA1 is an inductive rod probe that is used for cable tracing when distance to the target cable is more than 20cm, i.e. usually for underground or duct cables.
Inductive tracing is based on detecting the magnetic field formed by the current that runs in the wire. Usually the current is induced with a transmitter.
Inductive rod probes are at their best with the so-called minimum tracing method, in which the probe is held in a vertical position. The strength of the field is high on both sides of the target and there is a precise minimum point directly above the object.

SA1 probe can be used also for the so-called maximum trace, in which the SA1 is held horizontally, transverse to the cable. Now the strength of the field is at its highest directly above the cable. As the peak is wide, this method of searching is less accurate than the minimum detection. However, the direction of the cable is easy to determine on the basis of the maximum trace: When the SA1 rod probe is rotated above the cable (transverse to the ground), the sound will drop when the probe is parallel to the cable.
SA1 dimensions are 160mm x 20mm
